I consider that the great national sin is the neglect of the masses, and that is one of the causes of our downfall. No amount of politics would be of any avail until the masses in India are once more well educated, welfare, and cared for.

Inauguration on 1st Jan 2011 at Erumanaickenpalayam  Village, Poncherimalai, near Mallur, Salem District at 4.30 p.m.

Sri D.Shekar, Sri G.Subhash, Sri S.Raja – all Masons of  Masonic Lodge Montfort 249 of The Grand Lodge of India.

          Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math Headquarters has selected 150 neglected areas through its branch Centres all over India to conduct medical programs (Immunization) for children and pregnant mothers. This is a four-year project starting from January 2011.

A.Target Group:
          Children upto the age of 12 years

B. Area of Operations: 150 selected backward areas of India

C. Aim: Promoting Growth and Holistic Development, particularly preventing and treating malnutrition in children, so that they may grow into healthy and productive members of society and enlightened citizens of India.

D. Schemes

I) MALNUTRITION: PREVENTION and TREATMENT
   Supplying of Nutritious food or Nutritive food supplements such as purak-ahar (soya bean,  
   groundnut, oil, bajra, besan and molassses), milk,vitamin and mineral supplements.

II) HEALTH CARE
    1. Preventive Health Care:
       i. Immunization
      ii. Weighing of children
      iii. Periodical check-ups and provision of mobile medical service
    2. Curative Health Care:
                 i. Treating the sick and under-nourished children and their mothers
           through dispensaries and mobile medical units,
                 ii. Conducting periodical health camps

III) EDUCATION
    Mode: Through Multimedia and Interactive Mass Education
    Topic: (A) Health Education:
(i) Nutrition
(ii) Immunization
(iii) Stop TB
(iv) Common Ailments and Remedies
(v) Personal Hygiene and Sanitation [Necessity of safe drinking water, brushing
        teeth, washing hands, clipping nails, etc]
(B) Value Education:
Moral Values, Etiquette, etc
         
IV) HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT:
     i. Providing safe drinking water
    ii. Providing sanitary toilet facilities[water-sealed Latrines]
    iii. Maintaining safe environment: pollution-free, smoke-free and clean.
         
V) MONITORING AND EVALUATION of all the above activities should be undertaken by
    keeping data and visual logs including conducting base-line and periodic surveys.
         

VI) COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION: The members of community should participate in all the
           above activities right from the beginning and all efforts 
           should be \made to make them true owners of all the       
           programs with centers and their personnel acting as     
           facilitators.

The following should especially be encouraged:

  1. Keeping the living quarters and environment clean and hygienic, especially in slums, by clearing garbage and dirt.
  2. Making each member of the society to be aware of his collective responsibility and express this sense of responsibility through words, deeds and action.

V) The children will be served tiffin and milk every evening. This is a three-hour program. Projector, Screen etc. will be provided to show educated, cultural and religious CDs. Teachers will be appointed to take tuition and give couching in their subjects. One attendant will be appointed to prepare milk and tiffin every day.
