| The Holy TrioBhagawan Sri Ramakrishna (1836-1886) was born in Kamarpukur, Dt. Howrah, West Bengal, . He was an ardent devotee of Goddess Kali. He practised Hinduism in its various forms. He also practised Christianity and Islam. Finally he realized that all the paths lead to the same Goal, thus establishing the harmony of religions. He also said that the goal of human life is to realize God. This may be done by following the Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga or Raja Yoga. Sri Ramakrishna’s foremost disciple, Swami Vivekananda, declared that he is a true follower of Sri Ramakrishna who combines in himself or herself all the four Yogas.
Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi (1853-1920) was born in Jayarambati, Dt.Hoogly, West Bengal. She was an embodiment of womanhood, motherhood and nun-hood. She was the spiritual consort of Sri Ramakrishna and pointed out for humanity that renunciation was the ornament which her divine consort wore. The highlight of Sri Ramakrishna’s life was a total abandonment of everything for the love of God.
Swami Vivekananda (1863 – 1902) was born in Simulia, in Kolkata. He was the chief disciple of Sri Ramakrishna unto whom his Master gave his mission to work out. He became a world-wide known messiah overnight by appearing at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago in September 1893. He spread Vedanta everywhere he went and called upon ns to worship God in humanity. The slave people of listened to his call and made the nation the goddess to worship and gave their lives at the altar of humanity. He established the Ramakrishna Order (the twin Organization – Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission) which is now rendering well acclaimed service at times of catastrophe. He spread the message of Vedanta and n Culture throughout the world. He was a great social reformer, patriot monk, and a spiritualist who spread the message of “Service to man as service to God”.
Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission
Sri Ramakrishna laid the foundation of a monastic Order at Cossipore, Kolkata, in 1886 during his last days. After the passing away of the Master, the monastic disciples organized themselves and started a Math that was called “The Ramakrishna Math” in memory of their beloved Master, Sri Ramakrishna. In 1899 it was moved to Belur on the west bank of the Ganges near Kolkata where it stands to this day.
Swami Vivekananda started the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897 after his triumphal return from the West.
The twin organization, the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, has its Headquarters at Belur Math, Dt. Howrah, West Bengal, . It has a common aim of disseminating the ancient spiritual truths, Sanatana Dharma, as propounded by Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda and to serve the humanity by seeing God in them.
Ideal: For the liberation of one’s own Self and for the good of the world.
Motto: Renunciation and Service, Harmony of Religions.
Method: Work as Worship. |
